In this 1979 mixed media image, aboard his ship (S.S. Algerine), caught in the icy fingered grip of early spring, an elderly Captain Bishop gazes seaward over the gunwale and casts his mind adrift to envision a lovely women of his youth approaching him through mystical light, across the ice pans.  One more memory of the harsh lifestyle of a bygone era in Newfoundland.

Captain Noah Bishop (1865 - 1939) was born on Swains Island, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada. S.S.Algerine is possibly the same Algerine that recovered one body following the search for victims of the Titanic.
