Top Canadian artist Heather Newson's watercolor painting of the Victorian façades of detached houses along Cottingham Street, Toronto are depicted in the early spring of 1952, as winter snow disappears from the roofs and sidewalk.

This well-proportioned work in Newson's contemporary art hint-of- abstract style is well suited to both the period and location of this architectural streetscape which the artist viewed with a birds-eye perspective from the upper story of the opposite building.
